Local Impact, Powerful Results.

Our mission is to create large-scale change in the Omaha community through the power of numbers, networking, and philanthropic contributions.

SUPPORT OMAHA

Each event includes member nominations of local Omaha 501(c)(3) charitable organizations impacting our community, a random drawing of three organizations, and a vote on which one deserves our combined one-time financial support and 100% of the contribution staying in the Omaha area.

  • $10,000, $20,000, $30,000 for a charity in 90 minutes!

  • Members commit to writing one $100 check (or bring cash) each quarter for $400 per year total.

  • The goal is to raise thousands at each event to impact our community = 100 members in attendance is $10,000 per event.

Events are from 4:30 to 6:00 PM once per quarter. Sponsors provide food and drink.

5:00 - 5:30 Social Hour

  • Upon arrival, members will check in and receive a nominating and voting ballot. Members can nominate a charity for consideration as they arrive/during the social hour.

5:30 – 6:00 Award Presentation + Vote

  • 3 Random charities are drawn. The members who nominated the three selected charities will each receive 2 to 3 minutes to describe why the group should support the charity. There may be a brief Q&A.

  • Members present will vote on which charity most deserves our support, and organizers will count the votes—majority rules. Although the selected organization may not be the preference of all, each member is still obligated to donate.

  • While votes are collected, previous award-recipient charities may share brief remarks on gift impact.

6:15 Selected Charity Announced + Payment Collected

  • Members will write out $100 checks to the chosen charity. We will collect the checks before the event ends. Any members absent can send their check within the next few days.

  • All checks will be made out directly to the chosen 501(c)(3) organization for tax and other purposes. After the event, the selected charity will be informed of our group donation. To receive the funds, they must provide proof of 501(c)(3) status and agree NOT to contact the group's donors for further donations or use their personal information. We then set a date to deliver the funds and invite the receiving organization to attend the following event to present the impact of our support in greater detail.

  • This group's benefit is simplicity, which will be protected and withheld by all members.

  • Events will be 90 minutes, as we know everyone is busy inside and outside of work. The first 30 minutes will be networking and social time. If you would like to submit a local charity for the drawing, be sure to arrive during this time. The following 30 minutes are used for nonprofit nominations, hearing from previous recipients, and any needed updates for the group. The last 30 minutes will be additional time to socialize, and we will announce the winning charity + collect awards during this time.

  • Absolutely! This is highly encouraged. To vote, they will need to register to become a member at the check-in table upon arrival.

    • You can do one of two things if a member cannot attend a event.

      • Send a blank, signed check with a trusted friend to the event (preferred). The friend will write in the name of the chosen charity and give it to the organizers on your behalf. The friend, however, may not vote on behalf of the absent member. We can only count the votes of members present at the event.

      • The member can contact another member or one of the organizers to find out the selected charity, make the $100 check directly payable to that charity, and then send the check to 100s Omaha Men Who Care | Attn: Ryan Cook | 13616 California Street, Omaha, NE 68154

  • The goal of the 100s Omaha Men Who Care organization is to bundle the donations to make one substantial donation on behalf of the group. We want to significantly impact our community, with each member's donation being part of the larger donation.

    • Based in and serving the Omaha, Nebraska area(s).

    • The organization must be a nonprofit entity recognized as a 50l(c)(3) and must have been previously established (no start-ups).

    • All donations go to charities, nonprofits, or worthy causes serving the Omaha community. We will not consider national charities. However, local branches of national charities are eligible for consideration. The purpose is for 100% of the contribution to stay in the Omaha area.

  • A 501(c)(3) is defined as "exemptions that apply to corporations, and any community chest, fund or foundation, organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, educational purposes, to foster national or international amateur sports competition, promote the arts, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals." However, for 100s Omaha Men Who Care, all groups up for consideration must be local to Omaha.

  • Your contribution is tax deductible if made payable to a 50l(c)(3) organization. Checks are written directly to the local organization, NOT to 100s Omaha Men Who Care. Please contact your tax advisor or visit the IRS website for further information.

  • Each member can submit the name of a local organization upon arrival. At random, three organizations will be selected. The members who wrote down the chosen nonprofits will give a short 2-to-3-minute presentation on why their chosen organization should receive the donation.

  • Members submitting an organization's name for consideration should be prepared to give a 2-to-3-minute presentation. Your presentation should be informal, factual, and simple. You should be able to comment on such considerations as those listed below and be prepared to answer questions.

    • Is the organization a registered 50I(c)(3) nonprofit? (a requirement!)

    • What is the name of the organization?

    • What is the organization's mission?

    • Where is it located, and what areas does it serve?

    • Please remember that charities will only be considered if they are local nonprofits serving Omaha.

    • What services are performed by the organization? Who benefits?

    • How would the organization benefit from receiving our specific, one-time donation?

    • Consider providing an anecdotal story about individuals who have been beneficiaries of the charity's work.

    • What are the current sources of funding? What is its annual budget?

    • How is the organization run? (Does it have a board of directors, executive director, other staff, etc.?)

    • Research the organization's reputation on www.charitynavigator.org, www.givewell.org, or another similar resource and be prepared to comment.

    • If chosen, to whom would the group make their checks payable?

  • If a member presents on a charity that is not chosen, the member can submit the name of the same charity at subsequent events. Once a charity is chosen and funded, that charity is no longer eligible to be considered again for one year. The member, however, is still eligible to submit the name of another charity.

  • The charity/nonprofit/worthy cause must agree NOT to use the member names for future solicitations nor give the information out to the public. If the charity does not adhere to this condition, it will not receive the contributions.
